I’ve spent the last week introducing you to all the teams currently playing in the Championship. With real games starting in less than an hour – the kick-off of Derby County and Reading is scheduled for 8pm London time (3pm est) – here’s my completely unscientific prediction for how the season might play out.

Rank Team Record Last Week
Stoke City N/A
Middlesbrough N/A
West Bromwich Albion N/A
Swansea City N/A
Derby County N/A
Aston Villa N/A
Preston North End N/A
Sheffield United N/A
Brentford N/A
Leeds United N/A
Ipswich Town N/A
Queens Park Rangers N/A
Norwich City N/A
Sheffield Wednesday N/A
Millwall N/A
Wigan Athletic N/A
Nottingham Forest N/A
Blackburn Rovers N/A
Hull City N/A
Birmingham City N/A
Bristol City N/A
Reading N/A
Bolton Wanderers N/A
Rotherham United N/A

I’ll be updating this after the weekly matches are complete, and try to highlight a couple of games every weekend that might be worth checking out. (You can also expect to see similar coverage when the Premier League starts next week, but we’re still working through what our weekly schedule will look like once the season actually gets underway).
Chances are that I’ll be completely wrong. There is always a surprise team or two that do better (or worse) than expected. One game may not tell us a lot, but three points can often make the difference between qualifying for the playoffs, spending another season in the Championship, or ending up in League One.
Unitil next time…
