Everton vs. Southampton
Location: Goodison Park, London
Everton comes into this match as huge favorites, with an expected 2 goals on the line for this game.
I’m not going to comment on the Jagielka red card, it was given, why specifically it was given is irrelevant. That said, Everton reacted marvelously to going a man down, they were up 1-0 before Jagielka’s 40′ red card. After that, they conceded 2 goals, yes, but they managed to score as well. After the red card and the Neves 44′ goal, Wolves were likely to win the game, or so everyone thought. Everton did enough to keep the point which, being away and down a man, is a great escape. I don’t think they need a miracle to win this one, they just need to keep 11 sets of boots on the pitch. I also think that Mina is going to step up in a big way with the captain sidelined (due to the red card).

Southampton got one of the more surprising results of the weekend (we expected a comfortable win). Despite relatively equal possession, Burnley dominated all the statistical aspects of the game, and I think that Southampton fans owe McCarthy a round of drinks. He, singlehandedly, kept them in the game with some marvelous saves (6 in total). Without an offense that improves dramatically over the 3 shots on target they put up in the Burnley game — I don’t think Southampton will have a great season. They need to treat that last game as a mulligan and bring out their shooting boots for this game against Everton.
