EFL Championship – Week 9 Power Rankings

Seven of the 12 matches this week in the Championship ended in draws, so a lot of teams didn’t move much in this week’s Power Rankings. There was a bit if shuffling at the top, if only because wins are more important than draws, knocking Middlesbrough out of the top spot after their recent ascent.

Ipswich Town remains winless, though three straight draws keeps them above some others here, as well as in the league table. They are solidly in the relegation zone, however, so it might be time to start converting some of those draws to wins, especially if they want to stay in the Championship.
West Brom has moved into first place in the table as well as these rankings, on the strength of three straight wins over the past two weeks. Former number one Middlesbrough, as well as Sheffield United, continue to nip at their heels, but they remain the team to beat, and should continue their winning ways this week against a much weaker Sheffield Wednesday club.
The middle of the table is quite muddled at the moment, with ten clubs with between 14 and 16 points. As it stands now, 16 points locks in the final spot in the promotion playoffs, so the movement around that number, at least for the next few weeks, will be the most interesting place to watch as we head into October.
Until next time…
