(UPDATED) EFL Championship – Week 23 Slate

Championship Week 23 Fixtures/Results

This week will be a bit abbreviated for the Championship, with ten clubs playing in the Fourth Round of the FA Cup during the upcoming weekend. Because of this, there will be only six league matches this weekend, and they feature 12 of the 14 clubs that have been eliminated from the FA Cup.

Per usual, the number in parenthesis before each club is where they fell on our Week 23 Power Rankings. Home clubs are listed first, and will be hosting both matches on the week. We’ll keep this updated throughout the week, with winners indicated in bold, while matches that end in draws will have their clubs italicized.

(9) Aston Villa 2-1 (23) Ipswich Town
(13) Blackburn Rovers 3-0 (2) Hull City
(7) Norwich City 2-2 (5) Sheffield United   **MATCH OF THE WEEK**
(15) Nottingham Forest 3-1 (20) Wigan Athletic
(22) Rotherham United 1-2 (6) Leeds United
(14) Stoke City 0-2 (19) Preston North End

Matches at the Top

The only match in the abbreviated schedule between top ten clubs will happen in Norwich, with Norwich City hosting Sheffield United. We’ll have an in-depth preview of the match a little later in the week – look for it on Friday – but Norwich will probably be looking for revenge after Sheffield United won their first matchup this season. A win by the Blades would pull the clubs even with 53 points, while a Canaries victory would allow them to keep pace with league-leading Leeds United, who has a much easier matchup this week with relegation fodder Rotherham United.

Either way, the schedule in the Championship is going to be wonky over the next couple of weeks, at least until all the clubs get equal again in matches played. While I enjoy seeing the Championship clubs perform well in cup competitions, it really hinders my ability to publish these rankings every week.

Until next time…
