Matches to Watch This Week

There are only two matches this week that pit top ten clubs against each other: Bristol City hosting Leeds United and Nottingham Forest hosting Hull City. Otherwise, the week will be full of matches that will either further muddle up the middle of the table – 12 teams are within 10 points of 6th place Bristol City at the moment.

The fight to avoid relegation is also starting to heat up, though for Ipswich Town, the fight may already be over. They are 12 points behind Reading in the last safe spot, and are behind by 18 goals on goal differential as well. They are winless in eight matches (0-3-5), though I suppose it could be worse.

Fellow cellar dweller Bolton Wanderers are in the midst of a sell due to financial issues, and face a hearing in a few weeks about a potential “winding-up.” Should the club be unable to field a club for any looming matches, the forfeits could all but ensure that the new owners take over a club that is heading to League One, which could further damage the price that Ken Anderson can receive for the club, which would further exacerbate the current money issues. A big mess in Bolton regardless.

Until next time…
