Alliance of American Football – Week 6 Preview

AAF Week 5 Schedule and Picks

It’s Week 6 in the Alliance!

Some questions we have entering this weekend’s action:

  • Can the Orlando Apollos be stopped? And will they clinch a playoff spot this weekend?
  • Attendance went up for the first time all season last week. Should we expect the same again?
  • Who is going to take control in the West?
  • Will any team decide that running the ball is a good way to move it? Or will we see another week dominated by passing?

With those questions and more, we’re excited for the first games of the second half of the season. Here’s a brief look at the four inter-conference matchups:

Europa League – Quarterfinal Draw

And then there were eight…

After an exciting (but mostly chalk) Round of 16, we have arrived at the Europa League quarterfinals. The draw – which placed the teams in quarterfinal and semifinal brackets – occurred earlier this morning in Switzerland. Restrictions as to who could play have been lifted, though we did have a scheduling change after the draw due to two London teams each being drawn as home clubs for the same leg.

Let’s take a quick look at the matchups and the favorites as they stand now. We’ll be back in April to preview the individual matchups more in-depth before the first leg kicks off on 11 April.

(UPDATED) Premier League – Week 27 Slate

Premier League Week 27 Fixtures/Results

This week’s slate is really small, with six clubs – Brighton & Hove Albion, Crystal Palace, Manchester CityManchester United, Watford, and Wolverhampton Wanderers – participating in the FA Cup quarterfinals. Four others – Arsenal, Cardiff City, Southampton, and Tottenham Hotspur – are off because their scheduled opponent was one of those six clubs and they’ve already played the other available teams twice. Nevertheless, the week’s games will still be important, with some mid-table clubs facing off against each other in an attempt to move into the top 10 of the league.

As always, the number in parenthesis before each club reflects their spot on our Power Rankings, and we’ll try to keep this list updated as the week progresses. Home teams are listed first, and winners will be indicated in bold. In the event of a draw, both teams will be placed in italics.

Premier League – Week 27 Power Rankings

This past week in the Premier League went kind of as expected; the top teams won – or beat each other – and the bottoms team lost. Nevertheless, fourteen teams are in different spots then they were last week but the clubs are generally in the same spots in our Power Rankings that they are in the league table.

This week’s slate is abbreviated a bit, with only 10 clubs in action due to scheduling problems from the six clubs playing in the FA Cup quarterfinals. That action leads to a week-long break, with all the clubs coming back on 30 March to finish out the last eight or nine matches of the season.

Alliance of American Football – Week 5 Leaders

AAF Stat Leaders

It’s hard not to think at this point that the Orlando Apollos will be in the playoffs at the end of the season. They haven’t officially clinched anything yet, but they have a two-game lead on the Birmingham Iron and already have a win against each of the other Eastern Conference team. Six wins might be enough to clinch at least a spot in the playoffs in the East, and they can get there this weekend against the Arizona Hotshots.

The Western Conference is another story altogether. I think at least one five-win team will make it, unless things dramatically change over the last five weeks of the stadium. But I don’t think the teams should be expecting that they can sneak into the playoffs as a 0.500 team. The Salt Lake Stallions, currently 1-4 on the season, really needed that last second lead to stand on Saturday. They can still technically make the playoffs, but anything less than 5-0 from this point out might make it pretty precarious.

Let’s take a look at the individual categories:
