EFL Championship – Week 17 Slate

Championship Week 17 Fixtures/Results

We saw a lot of movement in our Power Rankings after a Week 16 that saw a lot of upsets. This week appears to be no different, with a lot of matches between clubs that are within a few spots of each other. But it’s also another week where top clubs Norwich City and Leeds United should remain at the top of the league table, with a potential expansion of their current lead due to many other top ten clubs facing off this week.

Per usual, the number in parenthesis before each club is where they fell on our Week 17 Power Rankings. Home clubs are listed first. We’ll keep this updated throughout the weekend, with winning indicated in bold, while matches that end in draws will have their clubs italicized.

EFL Championship – Week 16 Power Rankings

With a draw on Monday night, Week 15 of the Championship came to a close, with all the clubs playing twice. As I anticipated last week, the double-barrelled action had a dramatic impact on the Power Rankings, with only four clubs staying put from last week.

Most clubs this week also had split results; only four clubs either won twice or lost twice, and no club drew twice. As always, these rankings are an attempt to get a pulse on the current state of each club, and don’t always match the club’s position in the league table.

EFL Championship – Week 12 Power Rankings

Two games this week for the clubs across the Championship, and as a result, we’ve seen a lot of movement from last week’s Power Rankings. So much movement, in fact, that only one team stayed in the same spot in this week’s rankings.

As previously mentioned, we try to base the rankings only on matches played in the Championship. However, with four clubs playing in EFL Cup matches this week – Norwich City, Nottingham Forest, Derby County, and Middlesbrough – success there (three of the four will be playing Premier League clubs) might boost them next week a little more than what happens in league play next weekend.

Promotion & Relegation Watch – Championship – Version 2

Note: The plan early in the season is to update these standings about every five weeks or so until much later in the season. We’ll try to highlight the important game that most impact the promotion and relegation zones in these pieces, but also take a look at how teams got to that point in the table.
We are now a little over a quarter into the Championship season, so here’s our next look at the promotion and relegation zones in the Championship. (You can find our first look here). That look was after all the clubs had played five matches, and there has been some dramatic moves at the top of the table since.
In the Championship, the top two teams are automatically promoted to the Premier League, with the third- through sixth-place teams competing for promotion via a playoff. As a reminder, after the 2017-2018 season, Wolverhampton Wanderers (1st), Cardiff City (2nd), and Fulham (playoff winner) earned promotion.
