EFL Championship – Week 22 Power Rankings

Another week in the Championship, another week of movement in our weekly Power Rankings. Only four clubs remain in the same spot that they were last week, and one of those clubs is last week’s top club, who managed to avoid the jinx we tend to place on our top club.

This week was also an opportunity to “right size” the rankings a bit; I have no idea how Aston Villa had managed to climb as high as they did in my rankings while struggling to stay in the top 10 of the league table, so that’s been mostly corrected. There are some other clubs that are a long ways off from their table position, but I can easily justify those ones.

EFL Championship – Week 21 Power Rankings

We are in the middle of a bit of a break at the top of English football, with the clubs taking a break from league play since the New Year’s Day matches last Tuesday (though there was FA Cup action over the weekend).

This week’s rankings saw some big moves over last week, with only seven clubs not moving. The “Festive Fixtures” wreaked some havoc on our rankings, with last week’s new #1 club – West Bromwich Albion – already off the top of the rankings after a loss on New Year’s. Furthermore, our rankings compared to the league table have really diverged over the past couple of weeks, something I expect to correct itself over the next couple of weeks as transfers and loans are sorted out during the January transfer period.

EFL Championship – Week 17 Power Rankings

After occupying five days last week, Week 16 in the Championship was a relatively succinct affair, with a single match on Friday and the rest of the slate played on Saturday.

The resulting action shuffled things up in the middle of our Power Rankings, with 14 clubs on the move from last week. Per usual, rankings here are determined based on recent action and not necessarily the season on the whole, which is why some clubs might be a few spots higher or lower than their spots on the league table.

(UPDATED) EFL Championship – Week 15 Slate

Championship Week 15 Fixtures/Results

After shaking off the international break cobwebs this past weekend, the clubs of the Championship will each be playing twice this week. Upon completion of the final match Monday night, all clubs will have played 20 matches on the season, and will reach the half way point the week before Christmas.

Per usual, the number in parenthesis before each club is where they fell on our Week 15 Power Rankings. In the past, when we have had two league matches in a week, we end up seeing a lot of movement in subsequent rankings, and this week’s slate features a lot of matches that could shake up the rankings (and league standings). We’ll profile a few of those matches during the week, and we’ll try to keep this page updated as results roll in, so feel free to check back in throughout the week.

Home clubs are listed first. Winning clubs will be indicated in bold, while matches that end in draws will have their clubs italicized.

EFL Championship – Week 14 Power Rankings

It’s been nine days since they last played in the Championship, so I’m sure I can speak for all fans of the league and say that I’m glad the international break is over! Play returns this week with action on Friday, but before we get to that, we need to update our Power Rankings from before the break.

If you missed these rankings last week, I hope you found our latest look at the promotion and relegation standings, which we published in lieu of these rankings. As always, the movement in the rankings here (hopefully) only reflects the action in the league.

(UPDATED) EFL Championship – Week 13 Slate

The Championship will be on an international break again next week, so this weekend’s action will be the last for most clubs until after Thanksgiving. Action will kick off on Friday night with the Steel City Derby between Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday, which pits two rivals heading in two different directions, and closed out with our Match of the Week on Saturday afternoon. It should be a thrilling week leading up to the break for sure!

As always, the number in parenthesis before each team represents their current rank in our weekly Power Rankings. As the matches progress, we will update this list with results, with winning teams in bold and drawn teams in italics.
