Salt Lake Stallions v San Antonio Commanders – Game Preview

We wrote a brief preview about all Week 7 games yesterday. However, just like we do every week, we’ll be writing a more in-depth look at the weekend’s game featuring our hometown team, the Salt Lake Stallions.

Both teams in this game are coming off wins last week, taking advantage of playing the two weaker teams in the Eastern Conference. The Salt Lake Stallions welcomed the Memphis Express to Salt Lake, and won fairly convincingly – though they struggled a bit after racing out to an early 16-0 lead. The San Antonio Commanders, on the other hand, dominated the Atlanta Legends on both sides of the ball in winning 37-6. The first matchup between these teams “kicks off” at 8:00pm EST (6:00pm MST) from San Antonio, and will be broadcast on NFL Network.

The Commanders have been on the road for the past month, winning three games in a row away from the Alamodome, the location of today’s game. But when they have been home this season, they’ve averaged over 28,000 fans in attendance, so playing three of their final four games at home could be enough to get them over the finish line. The Stallions, on the other hand, have not yet won on the road (0-3) this season, so the Alamodome might not be the friendliest location for their first road game of the season.

Here’s a look at how the teams stack up:

Alliance of American Football – Week 6 Preview

AAF Week 6 Schedule and Picks

It’s Week 6 in the Alliance!

Some questions we have entering this weekend’s action:

  • Can the Orlando Apollos be stopped? And will they clinch a playoff spot this weekend?
  • Attendance went up for the first time all season last week. Should we expect the same again?
  • Who is going to take control in the West?
  • Will any team decide that running the ball is a good way to move it? Or will we see another week dominated by passing?

With those questions and more, we’re excited for the first games of the second half of the season. Here’s a brief look at the four inter-conference matchups:

Salt Lake Stallions v San Diego Fleet – Game Preview

We wrote about the entirety of the Week 5 schedule yesterday, but since we are a Utah-based site, and because we have adopted the Salt Lake Stallions as our Alliance team, we wanted to write a more in-depth review of the game this week against the San Diego Fleet.

The game will kick off from SDCCU Stadium in San Diego on Saturday, March 9th at 6:00pm MST (8:00pm EST). The Stallions will be looking for the their first road victory of the season (0-2), while the Fleet have yet to lose a game at home on the season (2-0).

Last week, the Stallions lost 20-11 to the Orlando Apollos at home, falling to 1-3 (and fourth place in the Western Conference). The Fleet are also coming off a loss, losing 26-23 to the Memphis Express (the Express’ first win of the season), pushing the Fleet to 2-2 and into a three-way tie at the top of the conference.

Here’s a look at what to expect from the teams based on their performance this season:

We wrote about the entirety of the Week 4 schedule yesterday, but since we are a Utah-based site, and because we have adopted the Salt Lake Stallions as our Alliance team, we wanted to write a more in-depth review of the game this week against the Orlando Apollos.

This will be the second home game on the young season for the Stallions, and I imagine they are hoping for a larger turnout than last week, when only 10,641 fans made it to the game (and it looked to be a lot less in person). I’d blame it on the weather – it was in the mid-30s for most of the game – but with the Stallions winning their first game, maybe more people will be interested this week.

The game was moved from the original 2pm (local) slot to the later 6pm slot because the league wanted to feature the Apollos in prime time, but that may have also doomed them to another weather-affected game, with snow expected (80% chance) at tomorrow’s kickoff. Still, we Utahns are pretty resilient when it comes to snow, and maybe we can use the cold to our advantage against the team from the southernmost AAF city.
