Alliance of American Football – Week 2 Leaders

AAF Stat Leaders

We are two weeks into the inaugural Alliance of American Football season, and there has been some separation in some of the statistical categories after an amazing week of football. We have three teams at 2-0, and one of those teams had both the Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week.

Let’s take a look at the individual categories:

Passing

After throwing for nearly 400 yards in a come-from-behind victory over the San Antonio Commanders, Garrett Gilbert of the Orlando Apollos was named AAF Offensive Player of the Week. He is also leading the league in most passing categories, with only John Wolford‘s six touchdown passes eclipsing his four. Also, aside from those two plays, the quarterback play has been less than stellar up and down the league, but that should continue to improve as the season goes on.

By quarterback rating (using the NFL formula), here’s how the ten qualifiers (minimum 20 pass attempts) stack up currently (stats courtesy of AAF.com game reports; quarterback rating via author calculation):

Alliance of American Football – Week 2 Preview

It’s Week 2 in the Alliance! After an opening weekend that probably went as most people expected, we’ll see if the start-up “spring” football league can continue to find its way into the United States’ sports conscience.

Last weekend, the league was mostly alone, with only basketball and hockey competing for eyeballs (at least on television). This weekend, NBA All-Star Game festivities will be front and center, and the Daytona 500 will also kick off the NASCAR season on Sunday. Will this be enough to impact local attendance? And can the Alliance avoid the ratings slip that befell the XFL after its huge opening back in 2001?
