NFL Divisional Round

NFL Playoffs I still don’t know why they don’t call this round the Conference Semifinals, but I guess that is a dumb thing to care about. After last weekend’s results, I am just picking winners this week, since I can’t seem to come anywhere near where the final scores actually end up.  Seriously, look at … Read moreNFL Divisional Round

NFL Week 16 (2018) Preview

In these weekly previews, I’ll highlight the results that I found shocking from the previous week, as well as preview the game I am most looking forward to from the weekend ahead. As we get later into the season, I may add some other sections to this, including playoff positioning and a look forward to the upcoming draft.

The Top Games From Week 15

Los Angeles Chargers 29 – Kansas City Chiefs 28
We previewed this one a bit as our Game of the Week last week, and it definitely lived up to that billing. Early, it looked like the Chiefs would come out on top and clinch the AFC West. They led 14-7 at halftime after scoring twice in the first quarter, and kept the Chargers at bay, leading by at least a touchdown until the very end. A furious fourth quarter comeback – led by MVP candidate Philip Rivers – had the Chargers with a chance to tie the game at the one yard line after a pass interference penalty in the end zone.

With four seconds left, Rivers hit Mike Williams for a touchdown, and after review, the Chargers left the offense on the field to go for two and the win. The conversion attempt was probably the easiest play of the night, and the Chargers left Kansas City tied with the Chiefs, though losing the tiebreaker for the AFC West. The Chargers will likely need to win out to win the division, while also hoping for the Chiefs to lose at least one of their remaining games (more on their game this week in a moment).

Surprising Results from Week 7

This week went pretty much as expected, but there were still some results that were unexpected based on my personal preseason expectations. These three scores stood out to me during the sixth week of the season:

New England Patriots 38 – Chicago Bears 31
I was a little off in my score prediction (I thought the Pats would win 30-24), but it was just as exciting as I expected the game to be. The Bears jumped out to a 17-7 lead after a Jordan Howard TD, but Cordarrelle Patterson returned the ensuing kickoff 95 yards to pull the Pats within 3. A James White touchdown reception before the half put the Pats in the lead at 21-17, only to see the Bears open the second half with a touchdown drive to retake the lead. The Pats then scored 17 unanswered points, seemingly locking up the game, only to hold on down the stretch as the Bears faltered on the game-tying drive as time expired. The Pats look secure in first place in the division (as always) and a game against Buffalo this week may be a nice respite from the past two weeks against top clubs. They also may not need to score in the 30s to win in Buffalo, either.
